This style of music was made popular in the Seventies, thanks to bands like GENESIS, YES, PINK FLOYD, KING CRIMSON, VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, MAGMA, ANGE and many others. However, the rough rules of the market and the lack of media support led Progressive Rock to lose favor at the end of the decade. Despite the audience's desertion throughout the Eighties and Nineties, artists from all around the world still perpetuate this aesthetic. Opposed to a rigid formulae, Progressive Rock music mixes rock with elements from other horizons such as classical music (YES, GENESIS, EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER), jazz (SOFT MACHINE, CARAVAN, electronic musics (HELDON, TANGERINE DREAM, world music (Peter GABRIEL) and many more. During the last three decades, many artists have released true masterpieces ; but because of the media's lack of interest, these gems have not yet reached the ears of music lovers. Awareness of this problem led to the founding of Musea. For twenty years, a crew of volunteers has participated in this adventure, with no other aim than sharing the huge pleasure they feel while listening to these unknown treasures. The second stage was to become a professional organisation ; today a group of ten people is employed full-time, for the sake of unfashionable music.
Musea's activities are broken down into three main sectors:
Production: Musea and its associated labels (Musea Parallèle, Gazul, Brennus, Thundering, Angular, Ethnea, Dreaming, Great Winds, Rebel Music, Musiphyle, Blind Bee, Bluesy Mind and Brennus Thundering International) have published about 750 discs to date, a third of them being reissues. Artists signed by Musea come from France and other countries throughout the world. French Distribution: Musea is an official distributor for numerous French or foreign labels, and represents them exclusively in great chain stores in France (FNAC, Virgin Mégastore, Gibert Joseph, Hypermédia…) as well as in independent music shops.
