The label's catalogue was opened to DJ's and electronic music composers who were offered the possibility to make remixes following the charter established by Ici d'ailleurs. The OuMuPo, OUvroir de MUsiques Potentielles ("Opener of Potential Musics), is derived from the OuLiPo, l'OUvroir de LIttératures POtentielles (Opener of Potential Literatures) founded in 1960 by surrealists Raymond Queneau and François Le Lionnais. Vast project : assemble and reassemble letters and words according to constraints and some new forms in order to produce original pieces of work. From that point developed a whole wave of Ou-X-Pos, among which the OuMuPo, and also the OuBaPo, l'ouvroir de bandes dessinées potentielles (Opener of Potental Cartoons) gathering illustrators like Jean-Christophe Menu, Etienne Lécroart, Jochen Gerner, François Ayroles, Anne Baraou, Gilles Ciment, Thierry Groensteen, Killoffer, Lewis Trondheim etc...
Desiring to mix genres and fans of the OuBaPo, Ici d'ailleurs asked Jean-Christophe Menu, founding member and pillar of the Association, independent publisher at the start of a genuine evolution of the 9th Art in France, to take part in the collection by directing the graphic section of it. For each new opus, the Oubapians are invited to create a 16 pages original cartoon under new constraints echoing the ones established by Ici d'ailleurs for the musical side of the project. No DVD or hybrid CD here but a particularly well crafted box for a unique adventure following the same motto : amusement, experimentation and creative emulation !
