On

On is the meeting of Chicago percussionist Steven Hess and paris-based guitarist and composer Sylvain Chauveau. But the particularity of this duo is to have six hands: On plays, then a third person transforms the the tapes for a record.

After a first session of very quiet improvised music in a studio in Chicago in 2003, On decided to ask the famous norwegian producer Helge Sten (also known as Deathprod, member of Supersilent) to mix the tapes in his own personal way.

It became 2004's "Your naked ghost comes back at night" : a collection of dense, dark monochrome layers, in which one can hardly recognize the percussion and the guitar sounds.
Steven Hess has played in Europe, Northern America and Japan. Collaborations with Greg Davis, Pan American, Fessenden, the Dropp Ensemble, Robert Hampson...
Sylvain Chauveau has made five solo records, mainly based on piano and strings, on Les Disques du Soleil et de l'Acier and on FatCat.
