With a wide array of influences,a very distinctive style and a strong taste for melody and musical accuracy(precision),french artist Nekochan(japanese idiom for little cat) is surely one of the most exciting and refreshing producers at the moment.
Her stylish mash up of electronica, grime and glitch up beats lead by a fascinating ethereal voice reveals symbiotic, japan-influenced soundscapes.
Neko was brought up on classical music and learned to play the cello when she was a child.
At 17, She did a score for the short film 'second plan' by Christophe Chudy and did a second one a few years later 'la jeune femme qui lisait des romansd'amour 'by Regis Mardon. Three years later, she takes part in an electronic music duo, bringing her unusual voice and skills as a musician.
In 2006, she decides to start her own project using a Korg MS20 a microphone and a beat machine. Inspired by barocco and classical music melodies and a flamenco playing stepfather, she admits both the influences of andalusian and classical play a strong part in her way of writing music. No wonder she is so gifted for catchy melodies and intricate rythm patterns.
Over the last few years, Nekochan has definitely managed to create her very own blend of sound and mood switching skillfully from electronica and techno to the more underground tones of dubstep and glitch hop with her unique vocal touch.
2009 has been a busy year for her so far. She first appeared on french producer NooNe's album, out on BEE records earlier this year. Got to play alongside Nathan Fake at the Nuits sonores festival and demonstrated her ability to bring her sound to life on stage. One of her tunes will be released on the 'toulouse is on the map' compilation alongside David Caretta. And Airflex Labs is now releasing a digital E.P. "Vahiné/Wise", backed with her first 12" due this Winter.
