Biography

Necessary Intergalactic Cooperation (N.I.C) is based in Oslo, Norway and is no ordinary rock band, rather a musical supergroup drawn together for the purpose of a total global shakedown. Drawing from diverse backgrounds in dub, rock, punk, jazz, and electronica, the 4 members create a potent melting pot of sounds and styles, fusing the past and the future with music that is both timeless and universal. N.I.C. seeks to create common ground between established musical genres and taking them in exciting new directions.

The musicians: Drummer Ted Parsons is a longtime veteran of New York City's downtown music scene. Now living in Oslo, Ted has collaborated with the likes of Foetus, Bill Laswell, Word Sound projects and a long list of other singers and players. His success with bands like Prong and Swans is a well-documented chapter in music history. He's played with Godflesh, and is a full time member of Jesu and Teledubgnosis and in 2003 toured the world with Killing Joke as a session drummer. Ted's distinctive drum sounds can be heard on over 100 recordings.

A well-known name from the Oslo rock and electronica scene, Markus O Klyve handles keyboards and vocals for N.I.C. He has played with bands Far Out Fishing, Please, and Podams, in addition to numerous solo projects. As the band's educated musician, Markus puts everything in its right place.

N.I.C. guitarist Chuck Frazier hails from Houston, Texas and has been involved in several musical success stories from the oslo underground scene: Two Niggers and a Honky, Holy Toy, and Bulldog to name a few. His virtuoso playing and solos are the exotic spice in the band's sound.

With a background in punk and rock, N.I.C bassist Matti H has played in such bands as Kundalini and Horsemen. His uncanny ability to compose odd sequences with his favorite tool (the midi) contributes much to the band's original sound.

Along for the ride is Audio Architect Fredrik Kjelman (Kjeks), whose magical sound effects and dub-wise science are an increasingly important factor in N.I.C.'s music.

The multi-faceted music takes in influences from punk and soul, dub and electronica, and it works wonders. Obviously, this is a band that aims for a universal type of sound, a music without boundaries. The dub project originated from the Scotty Hard / Keith Levene from (P.I.L ) recording sessions.

The NIC in DUB was an experiment not as a remix album but a "mix album"\ the invited musicians, well known on the underground scene, created their own track out of 3 jams sent to them. Every mix sounds different than the next and all compliment each other. It's a great listen !
