Biography

Moodphase5ive are a Cape Town music institution - the first SA live band to fuse turntables and rappers with reggae, funk and traditional sounds. Fronted by enigmatic rapper D-Form and SA's foremost soul diva Ernie, the band creates a unique fusion of African music, hiphop, jazz, dub and funk - a sound that has seen them grace the stages of the likes of North Sea Jazz Festival, Lowlands and Pukkelpop festivals.

Their debut album ‘Steady On' was released in December 2000. Recorded in a bedroom studio, the album charted on all SA's major and college radio stations, and spawned 4 European tours. ‘In Superdeluxe Mode' was released in May 2002 - A rolling ‘mixtape' from the Moodphasers, featuring remixes of tracks from ‘Steady On' from the likes of Felix Laband, Kalahari Surfers and Bombhelter Hi-fi, interspersed with vintage out-takes from the MP5 rehearsal room and live recordings on tour in SA and Europe. Crossing the complete range of electronic styles from hiphop and drum n bass to weirdhop and gangsta 2step, this one's for the collectors.
