Melatonine

MELATONINE is formed in June 1999 in Metz by Mathieu (guitar) and Nico (bass). After only two rehearsals, the band performs for the first time on stage a couple of days later, quasi improvised tracks, exclusively instrumental. Following the same principle in pretty rock improvisations, the band plays once more in July and concerts follow. MELATONINE plays an instrumental music, often half-improvised. After some line-up changes, the band is finally completed by Alex on the drums around early 2000. After a very promissing 1st auto produced LP (Gingko EP), the band release their first studio album (Melatonine) in March 2001, and that same year the trio also performs more than a dozen times in the East of France (opening for Patton, Experience), but also in Luxembourg and Belgium.

The album is then programmed on many indie radios playlists in France and Belgium, and gets a huge critical praise from musical magazine and French fanzines. At that point UNIQUE RECORDS discovers the band, and their sound seduces them ; instrumental rock with gob smacking dynamics, rough and sensible, often recalling the best of emo-rock. When he band ask for the release of their second album, UNIQUE RECORDS's reaction is immediate for it is now obvious that MELATONINE belong to the greatest hopes of French rock. This 2nd album, « Les environnements principaux », recorded in 2002 and produced by the band in collaboration with LUNT, shows an undeniable evolution in the sound of the band, marked by the subtle appearance of electronic sounds (keyboards, vintage synths, groove box...) around the basic guitar-bass-drums structure. On some tracks a distant voice adds a few words on totally moving ambiances.

The record is released in France in June 2003 and receives praise from all of the specialised French press. The record quickly becomes the number sale of the label. Early 2004, Melatonine is invited to open for Texan band Explosion in the sky, and for Dianogah in Colmar, two American bands that are references in the genre... In 2005, the band starts recording their 3rd album still with their producer Gilles Deles aka Lunt..."Décembre est un samedi" is released at the end of 2006... The sound adventure continues...
