The adventure begins in 1998 thanks to a classical guitar and a tape recorder found by Chris Gontard and Rémy Chante at the local corner second-hand shop, which they immediately use to record a bunch of songs. A few under-the-counter tapes later (1998/2003), a real musical bond had grown between the two brothers. They develop an inimitable style, a great sense for pop melodies and hit the nail on the head when it comes to words.
"Clever texts full of private jokes that make you want to be friends with the two bro" (Popnews).
In 2004, they come out with "Chez les nudistes", their first real album and make it into a live set based on samples and throwing together odds and ends. As concerts go by, musician friends join in to broaden their pallet and form a band. Led by Rémy Chante's electric guitar and Chris Gontard's impressive performances as a disenchanted Front Man, the Nubucks explore the Bad seeds' tension and the Modern Lovers' swing with garlands of flowers and crazy samples.
In 2006 « Chaque vivant est un mort en puissance » acts like a bomb, their unusual world has enriched and the brothers go even further into their science of texts and arrangements. The album receives real positive feedback. Filled with animals, dance steps, car shells, brass instruments, scorned friendship and sexuality, a great new album is already in the starting-blocks for a long run. "Stop looking for the best French band, it's the one that wishes you well by speaking bad" (A Decouvrir Absolument)
