With the release of Fedaden's first debut album 4 years ago, Nacopajaz gave lovers of the French IDM electronica music scene the opportunity to discover the mesmerizing universe of a new talented maverick and sound-wizard.
Even though the world of electronic music in France has already been charted by many musicians, Fedaden's approach to it is definitely more elemental and instinctive and on a much more human level than that of his peers. Though deeply his very own, Fedaden's music looks in the same direction as the soundscapes designed by such sound-obsessed forerunning acts as Fennesz, Biosphere or Star of The Lid. Rather than dwelling in already-explored territories, Fedaden defines the sonic boundaries of his own amazingly organic musical universe, with sounds and layers of music that seem to stem straight from the belly of the Earth. Denis Fedabeille (aka Fedaden), a minute and dedicated artist, has been shaping and perfecting his musical universe since the early nineties, thus giving birth to a throbbing, deeply-poetic though sometimes frentic world which cannot but grow on the listener, rewarding him with the many unexpected and unheard-of-yet subtleties and intricacies in his music.
He created the French duo Del Wire with Cisco, aka Artificiel in 2003. Their first record, the aptly-titled "01", was released by Nacopajaz in 2004. A brilliant mixture of cinematic electronica and minimalist breakbeats, their first output earned them a lot of critical acclaim, both in France and abroad, and appealed to foreign music lovers as well as French ones. Three years after its release, "01" still makes for a unique, exceptional and out of time listening experience. « A killer » De:Bug
Meanwhile, Fedaden also worked on his very own project, experimenting with an electronica that was wider in scope than that of his other outfit, threading intriguing and minute electronic gems suffused with his amazing melodic talent. His amazing flair for orchestration shines through his first long-player (« Fedaden » Nacopajaz 2005), especially on tracks like « Ocean » or « No Me Siento », while the seismic electronic track « Voilà » seems to brings us back to the origins of the universe. The opening track « Ansiedad » highlights in a wonderful way his skills as a producer, as a bossa nova-inspired pulsing rhythm intertwines with bold, challenging electronic patterns, thereby turning the tune into a Bossa-electronica, marimba-based and fifties-influenced tune to be listened to with flip-flops on.
In 2006 net label Edogm released "Remains", a 35-minute-long, one-track-only record which made Fedaden's taste for more abstract soundscapes based on samples and noise fragments blatant. «The record makes for a riveting electronica experience, as the work of only one man is gorged with a myriad of sounds, noises, sonic hues and patterns, like so many universes and worlds left to explore. »
Fedaden's "Palabras" second album on Nacopajaz, is a granite-like monolith of a record, pervaded with the very own touch of the Toulouse-based artist, be it with its powerful layers of sounds like so many lava flows or its spacey melodies that would provide the perfect soundtrack to science-fiction flicks. The record, willingly refined and kept to the bare essentials, can be listened to as a series of dazzling though slightly mysterious and ominous meanderings in Fedaden's universe, without adding too much ormementation to the tracks. Even at its most ambient, Fedaden's music is the reflect of his exceptional and demanding personality, his dedication not to resort to clichés or stereotypes, his instinctive and straight from the heart approach to music and sounds. "Palabras", is an invitation to dwelve deeper into unexplored and uncharted sonic territories. "Palabras" is an ambient record unlike any other, the perfect soundtrack to a slow motion movie of the arctic vastness, in which shrill sounds break through the icy permafrost, like so many cracks through which breathtakingly beautiful surges of melodies soar.
That third album « Broader », rich of 13 tracks has been nurtured both on scene and at home that gives more abrasion to the tracks sligthly more up-tempo and dedicated for the dancefloor. Big acid bass of « Music Box » and « key » comes like to harden the intention balanced by Bright melodies and mysterious atmosphere that Fedaden only owns the secret.
A very interesting vocal collaboration with Dominique A comes to surprise us on « Danseur inutile » where he puts a dancer soul-searching words on an elegant but touching electronica ballad.
