Biography

In 1985 Déni Shaïn starts his musical discovery.
He studies the saxophone for 5 years at conservatoire in classical formation.

He then decides to try drums. Three years' study at municipal school and finally the Jazz school in Tours. Encountering Bob Gulloti makes him realize poly-rhythmia is one of the fundamental roots of music.
He subsequently heads for Africa. A first trip to Burkina-Faso sees him meet troupe FARAFINA with whom he trains for three months. Back to France, he comes across AMARA KANTÉ who teaches him malinké percussion (djembé, dum-dum) for two years.
A second 7-months trip to Guinea allows him to complete his training as he plays with the best musicians : Famoudou Konaté, Fadouba Oularé, Cébé Kourouma, and the National Ballet of Guinea.....
On his return he bonds with troupe DOUNIA PERCUSSION conducted by MADOU DJARRA with whom he records an album at La Maison de La Radio in 2002.

Three years' touring later, the troupe decides to part.
Déni then buys a computer and develops his own style combining all his musical influences.
This is how was born the concept of « molecule music ».
To have musicians improvise and record them so as to cut, distort, re-write their sounds.... use them as samples.
Pushing forward the feeling of each one with the ears, the rhythmics and the writing of Déni Shaïn. Merge all the molecules to form a one and only atom: DEFRASTRUCTURE.
He chooses Mexico to experiment on his new concept.
Along with many musical, instrumental and human encounters, he will immortalize these shared musical moments with his traveling studio and will bring back this new audio material to compose new tracks.

The « Déni Shaïn Sound System » is characterized by a heavy bass and groove gimmicks which keep a large space for musicians and for improvisation. The result is always surprising and each concert is a chance for a unique experience and invitation to travel. They've already rehearsed and performed at Le Cylindre of Besançon next to Fumuj and Feetwan (28th march 2008), where they got a quite enthusiastic and warm welcome from the crowd... but this is just the beginning.

Hybrid, experimental but always open to everyone, Deni Shaïn's music shows the richness of the diversity of musical tastes of those composing it:
-dj Séba : scratch.
-Damien Varaillon : bass and double bass.
-Emmanuel Cremer : cello.
-Philippe Vincenot : violin.
-Rémy jouffroy, Jean Philippe, Grégoir : Guitar.
-Korotimi Faucheux, Marion Rampal, Valérie Ciccarelli, Pedro : Vocals.
-Guillaume Gonde : Arranger and Sound Engineer.
-Déni Shaïn : mpc2000, machines and writing.

Today, Déni Shaïn works in his Marseille based studio, prepearing his next album retracing all his years of musical discoveries and combinations.
