Where (no one has a name)

Description

After clearly post-rock-influenced début album and EP, Dirge release in January 2007 their 2nd LP, Rebecca, which marks a turning point towards a more pop universe and a more detailed sound : to the original three-piece - guitar-vocals (Yann) / cello (Mirjam) / drums (Benjamin), have been added bass, brass section and violin.

Dirge then manage to set their own setting, deliberately intimist, in an atmosphere favouring confessions, and the acknowledgement of helplessness in front of crawling melancholia, in front of a failed relationship... Whether it is treated with irony or fever, the theme of absence stands as a natural guideline all along a proudly claimed spleen....

The album gets great critical acclaim (Rock’n folk, Magic, Abus Dangereux…)

The band is then back with an ultimate album « Where (No one has a name) », recorded in Le Havre in July 2009. Here, Dirge draw away from their early post-rock love. The tracks become more percussive, brilliant and personal. The cello/vocals/guitar/drums base of the start has got enriched by backing vocals, violin, trumpets, fuzz, slide and saturated guitars, to offer a more orchestrated album, in a more pop and rock vein. Their mature album, and the end of a 10 years adventure....
