“Valparaiso” is a 43-minute long monster .The title is the name of a city from Chili which is the only destination where none of Joy As A Toy’s members have traveled to.
Recorded in Brussels in two days with special guests Mai Lev, Fred “Lyenn” Jacques and Berlin-based belgian vibraphone player Els Vandeweyer, “Valparaiso” is packed with exhilaration, energy, poetry and unbridled humour. It’s a kind of high-octane mix between The Talking Heads and Robert Wyatt, sprinkled with Deerhoof’s tongue in cheek attitude.
