Who is Red Lili ?
From the singular pop formation Not For Capture of 2005, who released the acclaimed début album People (La Mante/Nocturne) in 2007 to the 2008 cinematic pop-rock transformation with a vocal duet (Bidge/Elodie Costan)
and lyrics by talented writer and actress Agathe Schlencker, the band has come to its full bloom. With Emmanuelle Lavau on drums and Heykel Fattoumi on bass, the rhythms of Red Lili are solid.
This singular team delivers an original cocktail in the current French musical landscape, standing out from committed and screamy brutal formations, or baby-rockers and other Frenglish bands repeatedly doing impressions of 70s rock icons. Well, the rock by Red Lili is sculpted the French way and puts forwards the lyrics, emotions and feelings.
Their hypersensitivity is underlined by the words of Agathe Schlencker, who signs most of the texts for the songs. Agathe is a talented actress who may well become the next revelation in French cinema. At 20, she's already starred in big production movies alongside Anna Mouglalis and a beautiful main role in film Belle Epine (Beautiful Thorn) which will be released in theatres in November 2010.
Musically speaking, besides the human and sensitive part, Red Lili are proud of their neatly rock sound, with good old distortions and riffs that may recall Interpol, les Pixies, Placebo or The Smashing Pumpkins. A both fragile and urgent musical aesthetic, sonic take-offs, a touch of cold-wave (Nos nuits) and de-multiplied guitar layers sometimes flirting with post-rock.
The mastering was taken care of by the absolute reference of sound production in Great-Britain for the last 40 years Mr Denis Blackham. Sir Blackham has worked on the sound of the greatest namely Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Led Zeppelin, T-Rex, Brian Eno and more recently French bands like M or Revolver.
Now you know a little bit better who Red Lili is, it's up to you to go and meet them....
