It’s been a while that I wanted to re- release UBIK’s Singles. Thanks to Richard Kolinka , Noëlle Devis et Béatrice Macé for giving me the rights to do it…So Here’s The Singles released beetween 1985 – 1986 distributed by Virgin plus 2 inedits never released yet…

1# Maria del Peyote :
Maria del Peyote was recorded in 1985 in Saint Nom La Breteche studio and mixed at + 30 studio by Emmanuel Thibierge, it’s the first collaboration with Peter Murray (négresse vertes) as producer . Jean Pierre Chalboss did a wonderful mastering work on this song.

2# Etoile Noire
This one was recorded in 16 tracks at Chamboredon studio. Etoile noire is one of my favorite Ubik Song. When pete & Emmanuel heard that one who was only a B side, they love dit so much that we Stold the tape machine from the sudio to bring it in Paris in the middle of the night to Mixe it in SSL in +30 studio !

3# OPERA
Second Single we did with the futur crew of what became famous label Off The Tracks records ! As at the time I was alone in the band, Peter presented me Steve Nieve who was at the time Elvis Costello Keyboard player. From him I only knew his work on David Bowie’s « Absolute beginners » . Steve did all Programming on a Fairlight – wich was at the time the must of samplers- and a wonderful piano part…

4# Get no B Side for Mr Hyde DJ
It was always the same story, B sides where always even better than A sides , simply because nobody cares ‘bout them ! so less pressure & more freedom generally gives better results ! Title was composed one week before the recording. One « white » night recording on this one with Steve Nieve who learned us what « bat food » was ! Thx Steve !

5# C’est pour la TV
This song has never been released… I did everything on this one… Only been played on stage ! Pity isn’t it !?

6# Les abonnes absents (inedit version)
This song is the demo of what would make me signed few month later under the name of Maujard & les telepathes with Off The Tracks Records. Lyrics are slightly different and the vibe is so good that even if the sound is a bit rough and weird, I wanted to release it one day : Its done ! the trumpet in this one is played by Bertrand Henri with …his voice !

7# Maria Del Peyote (long Version)
No comment ! Long version featuring Sex prof Pinpin’s Clarinette bass solo and vocal session in one take was like a kind of voodoo ceremony ! Was High !
