After having explored acoustic jazz for a long period of time, Gaël Horellou returns to fusion with an album that alternates between atmospheric jazz and electro-instrumental experimentation.
Synthesis is set in the continuity of Explorations, released in 2006: a sound both “trippy” and radically modern, to serve a type of music that stays faithful to the esthetic engagement of the forerunners (John and Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Yusef Lateef…).
At the crossroads between jazz and electronic music, machines are being used to erect multidimensional scenes, in which the musicians perform without ever disowning the fundamentals of jazz: the game, the rhythm, harmony and improvisation.
Beyond jazz, the influences that can be heard in Synthesis are diverse, from contemporary music (Terry Riley, Steve Reich…) to electro dub (Bill Laswell, Mad Professor…).
Recorded live at La Rodia (Besançon, France), this album was realized by Dominique "Dume" Poutet aka Otisto23 (Laurent de Wilde, Guillaume Perret, DTC Records...).
