Superpower

Description

"Superpower", first album by Dead Pop Club, was released in September 2000 on label WOM (War On Majors). While their third album is being written, we considered important - faithful to the "full discography" releasing strategy of the label - to re-release this record (which has been sold out for years) for the public. The CD pack version of "Superpower" was topped with 3 bonus tracks: the very rock "Wet (99 Remix)" and "Helicopter" are reprises from "Almost 4", their first auto-produced EP released in 1999 ; "Fantastic Planet" is extracted from the " Free Tibet " comp (Yelen / Sony). Beside its 15 tracks, the CD also offers two videos: a "making of" and the horror-movie-like "The Great Nightmare In Hookerwood".

"Superpower" was created rapidly without second thoughts in a time when the band was just playing for fun in their rehearsing premises of St-Ouen. Often the first album is the most instinctive of all. The record can then be listened to like a collection of songs written during the first two years of the band showing the original three-piece and the four-piece version of the band. Dead Pop Club is still shaping itself but already shows a will to unite melodies with energy e.g. on "Up To You" and its hint at Samiam, on "Baptized" and its Green Day touch, on "Superpower", powerful without being the fastest, in the line of Girls Against Boys, on "Number 8" and its emo side, or on "Spin" and its Standford Prison Experiment colour. "Invisible", both gasping and cyclic, is the kind of songs you only need to hear once to remember forever. Catchy refrains, pop elegance, strength in the construction are the ingredients of "Autopilot Off", their second album. Recorded by Fred Norguet (Seven Hate, Burning Heads, Sleepers, Homeboys...), the record was mixed at studio Pôle Nord in Blois by Jean-Christophe Tabuy (ex-Portobello Bones). This collaboration was to last since he will also supervise in the same way the next albums "Autopilot Off" and "Trailer Park".

Consequently tours begin with the first steps with bands like Second Rate, Flying Donuts, Uncommonmenfrommars, Homeboys or Nerf Herder, No Use For A Name, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, American Hi-Fi, not forgetting the classic stories of everyday life on tour, from motorway sandwiches to interviews with fanzines, webzines, labels, associations, organisers... all the people an indie band couldn't live without. "Superpower" celebrates the obsessions of Dead Pop Club, fear of growing up, the need to sweat on stage over and over again, the passion for comic books Mad Movies Magazine, not forgetting a certain sense of kitsch and second degree. Head in the stars but feet on the ground, Dead Pop Club pursue their quest for the truth. For, as you know, the truth is out there...
