DOG BLESS YOU / MENY HELLKIN « SPLIT» CKK009, Chez.Kito.Kat Records

Meny Hellkin is dead. It's been a while now. Just so you know, two of its members have followed a sugary pop path with Twin Pricks. Samuel Ricciuti is then the last one able to give the band a last disco-graphic chance and does so by sharing tapes with them for the time of a split CD. Above all it comes from the deepest respect of Dog bless you for its companions Florian and Geoffroy, in the Kito Kat zone. As we said, Samuel started this collaboration. Recently, we'd heard of Komparce, a project where Dog Bless you represents 50% of the music. Three tracks and one remix by Meny Hellkin to elevate music towards yet unexplored lands for this former hip hop fan who used to work in a collective and made his music evolve in some abstract hip hop more and more rid of its dry and vague attempts. Dog Bless you gets clearly more confident and turns his music into a more cosmic, tripping and intriguing music. On 2052, Dog Bless you's music comes back to its roughest and more lyrical aspect with keyboards facing rhythmic assaults recalling how big a fan of the original Warp stable DBY is. His remix of Meny Hellkin is a perfect destruction of the record's hybrid rock music, deconstructing the background voice of Florian. Wise combination of tripping sounds and hip hop rhythms recalling Geoggadi by Boards of Canada, the music of Dog Bless you wraps up in a delicious and warm production. Each new participation of Dog bless you is a step forward as the project becomes more and more confident. To ba followed then since a long playtime is planned.
B Side: Meny Hellkin for his posthumous track. The choice is epic with a cover of the best song by Pink Floyd: Set the control of the heart of the sun. A founding track for a whole fringe of psychedelism, with the last (more or less) participation of Syd Barret before madness took him away. Maximum risk taking in the choice of the track, Meny Hellkin dares to re-appropriate the original feeling to deliver an 18-minutes prophetic and incantatory version, altogether post punk and tribal, in the vein of Savage Republic. PAM! Thank you. (Chez Kito Kat)
