Brain Damage's fourth album, is entitled «Short cuts» as a more or less direct referrence to the "Commercial album" by The Residents (1980).
Much like this now mythic american band, Brain Damage develop a reflexion on emergency, frustration and intensity : everything must be said in the shortest possible lapse of time. In order to attain this objective, none of the 24 tracks recorded this project is over 2 minutes.
An uncommon orientation for a band still labelled electro-dub. This new project visits many new musical horizons, gradually sliding from psychedelic «floydian» folk to some kind of minimal electro-techno via trip-hop and the digital dub that has contributed to the reputation built with their two first albums.
Once again, Brain Damage have colaborated with many guest vocalists for this project. «Spoken word» is still predominent, represented here in seven languages: French, English, Bosnian, Catalan, Polish, Arabic and German. Many long time collaborators took part: Black Sifichi, as a permanent guest throughout the record, The Real Fake MC, also featured on High Tone's « Wave Digger », Mohammed El Amraoui (from Marocco) and Giovanni Marks (USA), who colaborated to Brain Damage's «Spoken Dub Manifesto». For « Shorcuts », the band has also recorded with artists met while touring in Eastern Europe: Priest Maken (Joint Venture Sound system-Poland) and Asmir Sabic (Vuneny-Bosnia). Mika, lead singer in the amazing band Pusse, Angeline Bouillie, polyvalent and lyric singer and the amazing 6 year old Lamija, born in Sarajevo also make remarkable appearances.
Once again, Brain Damage go into totally unexpected directions but stay loyal to their original choices: to keep the mental and ambient aspects for studio experimentation and pure and sensory energy for the stage.
