ÓRÓ

Description

ORKA started at a small farm on the Faroe Islands Christmas 2005. The band spent their holiday building innovative instruments out of materials found at the farm, such as e.g. The bottle organ and the post bass. ORKA played their first concert at the farm's machine hall on New Year 's eve 2005 and in 2007 ORKA released their critically acclaimed debut « Livandi oyða », which included recordings from the farm and collaborative artists such as Oktopus (Dälek, Ipecac) and Third Eye Foundation (Domino, FatCat, Ici d'ailleurs...).

ORKA started touring Europe and were the same year offered the prestigious 7-day residency ans Trans Musicales 2008 with Yann Tiersen (MUTE, Emi) as featuring artist – to which ORKA built new instruments such as the 1-stringed Noisolin and the 24-stringed Harpabol.

After several Europe tours, being nominated for the Nordic Council Music Award 2009, winning Liet International 2010, collaborations with Yann Tiersen, Teitur (Arlo&Betty, Universal), Eivør (Copenhagen) & Anna Katrin Egilstrøð (Valravn), ORKA started work on their second album « ÓRÓ ». It was recorded in a cold concrete salt warehouse by the Ports of Tórshavn in the snow of February 2010. ORKA rented the building for 1 month, fixed microphones and geophones on all 3 levels, staircases, elevators, built instruments and wrote and recorded all the material then and there together with producer Oktopus. The result is a dark Lynchian universe, luminous with icy Nordic vocals on top of evolved grit hop.

For the LP, it's a LP Gatefold clear yellow.
