For near a decade now, the band ez3kiel has become famous by a constant evolution in its operational fields. Basically working on music, the collective quickly considered graphic design as an incontournable edge of its work. From static imagery to animation, from record artwork to on-stage video projection, the band developed a very personal identity, both musical and visual, full of fantasy and modernity.
With Naphtaline, ez3kiel goes forward in this approach, by surprisingly adding a new dimension to its world, interactivity! The result is a genuine outsider in the music business: a boxset containing a DVROM and a AudioCD (its soundtrack), constituting a true frontdoor to tha band's universe.
The CDRom features an interactive journey that sticks to the trio's imaginary, including animated visuals, videos, and soundscapes entirely created by ez3kie's bassist. The DVD makes correspond several visual and sonic sets where the audience becomes an actor of the musical themes, triggered by mouse moves. No method, no rules. The only thing you need is to let go, get transported by the feeling Yann's work inspire you... Like a video game character, just stroll about in a maze of paintings, and discover hints and hidden animations put here and there...Let's say fans won't be disappointed!
On the CD side, the band composed the initial 13 soundtracks to the DVRom. Then they gave the score to musicians to interpret it. From then, the band's musical identity evolves, giving birth to fugues where the band only experimented until then. Essentially acoustic, Naphtaline takes the audience to a world full of modernity and nostalgy, where the piano, the clarinet, the accordion, or vocals are wonderfully orchestrated. Eleven tracks, close to each one, poetic, where instrumental grace appeals to dream and melancholy, somewhere between Eric Satie and Sigur Ros ! Ez3kiel definitely steps further in its multidisciplinary quest, in first class and with audacity, and remains one of the most out breaking bands of the French (electro?) musical scene. www.ez3kiel.com
