Hamlet – thème & variations

Description

In 2004 was released "Hamlet", fruit of the collaboration between Robert Le Magnifique, Abstrackt Keal Agram and stage director David Gauchard. This first recording had been meant as a previous work on the same named show. The purpose of this original process being that it could actually directly influence the stage directing.
Three years and sixty shows later (France and abroad), the hybrid show has undergone several mutations and seen its music widely evolving. Enough to present this totally unreleased 12-track album, true testimony of the most recent version of the show.

If Robert Le Magnifique brings here his electro hip hop touch, the work still results from the unlikely and incredible encounters of :
- Quatuor Debussy, "Best chamber music formation" at the 1996 Victoires de la Musique Classique, experts of Chostakovitch and kind of French alter-ego of Kronos Quartet.
- François Jeanneau, a pioneer in free jazz in France. Born in 1935, started in the early 60's at Club Saint Germain, created in 1978 the big band Pandemonium with Aldo Romano, then conducted the Orchestre National de Jazz as soon as it was created in 1986.
- Ezra, one of the most talented French beatboxers. In parallel to his discovery at Trans Musicales, Ezra multiplies cross-genres collaborations and thus militates in his own way to prove that beatbox isn't just a "fanciful accessory" meant for hip hop.
- Olivier Mellano, the other "man in black". Writer and composer for his personal projects, either rock (with his band Mobiil) or classical (with "La Chair des Anges", released 2006 by Naïve Classical), Olivier Mellano is also an omnipresent and evasive guitar player (seen in the last 15 years next to Yann Tiersen, Miossec, Dominique A, Laetitia Shériff, Françoiz Breut, Sloy, Bed, Polar, Bruno Green, Santa Cruz, Psykick Lyrikah ...).
- Arm, rapper and founder of hip hop band Psykick Lyrikah who beside his flow, brings in project Hamlet his poetic (or even lyrical) writings which perfectly to this new reading of Shakespeare's brilliant piece of work. André Markowicz, translator of "Hamlet", has personally acknowledged the incredible talent of the young rapper when discovering his texts.

To this list add up various talented actors like Marie Cayrol (alto and lyrical singer) and Haris Resic ending the record with a heartbreaking and highly emotional traditional Serbian song.

If the word "unclassifiable" may be overused, one must acknowledge that something truly magical has happened on "Hamlet thème & variations": from a delirious vision and an ambitious stage directing, the record succeeds in creating an unexpected alchemy between the aforementioned elements and thus becomes apart from any given format, as a piece of work with no equivalent.
