Dubalgan 500 mg

The first album, containing eight studio tracks and two remixes, was recorded in one evening session. The first improvisations had been created six months before the recording session. All the pieces on this record were originally previously recorded as improvisations before being structured during rehearsals. The album first came out on CD-R with a home made sleeve in the shape of a box of aspirin. It was then re-released in a digipack sleeve and distributed by PIAS. The critics were unanimous (at least those who had bothered listening to it). Dub, as lab° plays it, flirts with almost perpetual danger. Their form of dub is full of unfathomable pits, unexpected surges, and infinite echoes... The open-mindedness of the orchestration gives the impression that we are dealing with a Bill Laswell production at his best. Lab°, although certainly influenced by people like Dub Syndicate, are nevertheless a unique specimen in the field of melodic dub experimentation, and should get the attention of a label such as ON-U-SOUND, who would see and appreciate lab° for what they really are: an excellent electronic combo who are not afraid to push their dub to other musical spheres, in particular trip hop and instrumental hip hop ("la chienne"), thus giving a perpetual impression of travelling.
